Department of Service Science and Operations Management

Department of Service Science and Operations Management (abbreviated as SSOM) at Zhejiang University mainly explores and develops management theories, methods and technologies for economic and social activities with service dominant logic, cultivates innovative talents for modern service industries, and is the first academic department on service science established at school of management in China. SSOM takes service systems composed of interconnected people and various service resources as research objects, to reveal the law of value co-creation with the application of interpersonal interaction, network technology, organization and information under various conditions. The aim is to promote service innovation, improve service experience and increase service efficiency. Specific areas include: Production services in the direction of logistics and supply chain management; Life services in the direction of health, pension and financial services with the application of new information technology.

Committed to nurturing high-level academic researcher and composite leading talent in the field of service science and operations management, SSOM establishes four university research centers or institutions, i.e., research center of service science, research center of quality management, research center of real estate, and enterprise investment research institute. It also has two school research institutes, i.e., institute of supply chain management, and international business research institute. Teaching programs in SSOM include bachelor of logistics and supply chain management, master of professional degrees in service management and intelligence services, PhD of service science and operations management in the disciplines of management science and engineering and enterprise management.

SSOM currently has 13 faculty members, including 5 professors, 5 associate professors, and 3 assistant professors. In recent years, faculty members have been worked as principal investigators of about twenty important national projects, including major project of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), major international (reginal) cooperative project of NSFC, Major project of the National Social Science Fund, projects supported by National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholar. Professors in SSOM have contributed five cases to "National hundred excellent management cases", published more than ten monographs and textbooks, published more than 200 papers in international journals indexed by SCI and/or SSCI, including ten papers in top management journals, and awarded provincial scientific research awards many times. Doctoral students supervised by professors in SSOM have access to the provincial and ministerial level excellent doctoral dissertation and the nomination of nationwide excellent doctoral dissertations.
