浙江大学旅游管理专业是中国首个旅游本科专业，由国家旅游局于1980年投资布点。1984年开始招收培养旅游经济硕士研究生，1990年经中国国务院学位委员会批准成为中国第一个旅游经济硕士点，2003年拥有旅游管理专业博士学位授予权，建有国内最早的旅游管理博士后流动站。2010年，浙江大学旅游管理专业在庆祝办学三十周年庆典大会上，被国家旅游局授予全国旅游人才培训基地。

浙江大学旅游与酒店管理学系现有教师18人（博士生导师4人），其中教授3人，研究员1人，副教授8人，讲师6人。在多年的教学、研究和实践中，确立了饭店管理，旅游规划，休闲管理等三个主要研究方向，代表国内外当前旅游管理研究的主要方向。近年来承担国家科技支撑计划课题1项，国家社科重点项目1项，国家及省部重大项目13项，各级政府及企业委托项目300余项，发表学术论文280余篇，出版专著、教材60余本。

浙江大学旅游与酒店管理学系致力于培养具有现代管理理论和旅游专业知识，具备创新意识、过硬专业技能和综合素质，能在政府各级旅游行政管理部门、旅游企业、旅游科研、旅游教学部门工作的应用型和复合型专业人才。同时为各级政府部门和旅游企业提供旅游发展管理与管理咨询、旅游规划和开发服务。

Department of Tourism and Hotel Management

Founded in 1980, the Department of Tourism Management is the first undergraduate program in this area. It is sponsored by the National Tourism Administration of China (NTAC). In 1990, we were credited as the first group of institutes, offering Master's Degree in Tourism Economics (accredited by Academic Degree Commission of the State Council). We gained the credit to set up a Ph.D Program in 2003. In 2005, we began to accept Post-doctoral research fellows. By housing the first NTAC granted On-post Training Base for general managers of national star-related hotels and travel services, our department is well-known as the “Whampoa Military Academy” for hotel managers. In 2010, the department was awarded by NTAC as the National Training Base for Tourism Talents.

There are 18 faculty members (four Ph.D supervisors) in the Department of Tourism and Hotel Management. In detail, we have three professors, one research fellow, eight associate professors, and six lecturers. The research specialism of the department lies in hotel management, tourism planning, and leisure management. In the past five years, we have received 13 national research funds and provincial major projects. We have completed more than 300 research projects at national, provincial, municipal and industry. We published more than 280 research articles and 60 academic books. The department aims to empower the students with firm professional skills anchored in a broad theory base, so that they can follow diverse career paths, whether as management personnel, researchers, and educators. Our students graduate and work in management consulting industries, various service sectors as well as government.
